![]() You interact with the world through a first-person perspective, piecing together clues about your family's disappearance. You play as Kaitlin, a 21-year-old who returns to her childhood home where everyone has vanished. Gone Home (Fullbright, $7.99) I'm itching to play this adventure game that has received multiple accolades for its storytelling through unconventional means. Max Payne was the first game to truly bring to life bullet time mechanics, and the classic games still hold up well today. Rockstar's run n' gun game puts you in the shoes of a pill poppin' detective with serious issues. Max Payne series (Rockstar, $2.49 - $4.99) Pick up the entire Max Payne trilogy for less than $11. Here are some other great titles in Steam's sale you should think about picking up: Myst was the best-selling PC game for nine years, its run ended by The Sims in 2002. Cyan is based in Mead and was founded by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller in 1987. RealMyst: Masterpiece Edition, the high-definition remake of Cyan's classic adventure game released on the 20th anniversary of Myst's launch, is available for $8.99, half of the original asking price. Don't expect anything radically different from the 1993 original. The Inland Northwest is getting a little love in Steam's Mystery Midweek Sale, offering 75-percent off computer games through 10 a.m. Just keep in mind that it's more of the same, just with a fresh coat of paint. If you're feeling nostalgic and want to revisit Myst, this remake is worth a try. Some of the PC options also feel outdated, with limited save slots and unchangeable keyboard controls. ![]() It's hard to imagine taking notes while wearing a headset and holding controllers. While the addition of a photomode is nice, solving the game in VR seems challenging. But even with the modern facelift, the world still feels static, like a painting rather than a living, breathing place. ![]() The ocean waves, rolling clouds, and small details like a frog hopping along a bridge add to the atmosphere. Visually, Myst is stunning, especially in VR. There are plenty of satisfying eureka moments along the way. The puzzle design is clever, and sometimes a simple observation or paying attention to sounds can lead you in the right direction. However, there are still enjoyable aspects to Myst. I have to admit, my patience for the tougher puzzles isn't what it used to be, and I often found myself reaching for a walkthrough. The puzzles remain the same as the original, ranging from straightforward to punishingly difficult. Compared to other games set on islands, like The Witness, Myst feels shockingly small. Walking through the world this time is a nice change, but it also highlights how small the islands feel. The focus is more on puzzles than storytelling. To progress, you solve puzzles and gather missing pages to uncover the island's story. But let me tell you, Myst feels pretty outdated, no matter how it looks in 2021.įor those who haven't played it, Myst is an adventure game where you find yourself trapped on a mysterious island after reading a strange book. It's a complete remake of the game, now in 3D and even available in VR. So, I dove back into Myst after all these years.
